Photoshop has many ordinary and extra ordinary file formats for sample work. But these entire ordinary formats are not use for all work. Because the advance level formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF) has a common power that it work as ordinary format too. Here Blogger Shaon will want to show the basic information about the advance level file formats.
PSD (Photoshop Document):
PSD or Photoshop Document is the default file format in Photoshop. This is the only formats that support all the features of Photoshop. But a little bit different in Large Document Format (PSB). Besides, Adobe families other members (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premier, Adobe After Effects & Adobe GoLive) have integration that’s why PSD format will imported to that program easily.
Photoshop 2.0(Photoshop):
You can only use Photoshop 2.0 format which programs are support this file format. It save document as a flatten Image & erase all layers information.
BMP (Bitmap):
BMP is a standard format in DOS & Windows® compatible computers. It supports RGB, Indexed Color, Grayscale, & Bitmap too. You can decide Windows® or OS/2® format and also decide bit depth in BMP format.
AI (Adobe Illustrator):
AI is the default file format in Adobe Illustrator. It supports Grayscale, RGB, HSB, CMYK file formats. Besides it support multilayer’s format. In printing system, it is a common format. Because, it contain multi supported regulation for vector element.
EPS (Encapsulated Postscript)
EPS is the most useable file format in the sector of DTP or commercial output. It contain both vector & raster image. EPS supports Lab, CMYK, RGB, Index Color, Grayscale, Duonate and Bitmap color mode. It doesn’t support alpha channel. Besides it support clipping paths. To print this format you will need to install a postscript supported printer. This format supported programs are QuarkXPress, Illustrator, Page Maker, InDesign etc.
DCS (Desktop Color Separation):
DCS is the standard version of EPS format that will give advantage to save the color separation of an image. You will export that image where is the spot channel was used. To print this format you will need to install a postscript supported printer.
Cineon:
This format was updated by Kodak. It is 10 bits per channel supported image format. Generally, it will use at electric compositing, Manipulations and enhanced. You can manage output without changing image quality by this format. It will use as Cineon Digital Film System that convert or transfer image films to Cineon image format and send it film output department.
Filmstrip:
This format is use in the RGB animation file created by Adobe Premier. If you want to change the color mode, remove the alpha channel, resample or resize the formats file you could not save it as filmstrip format.
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format):
It mainly use in index color graphics & internet or others online hypertext markup language (HTML) files as an image. It is the most useable file in internet. It also use for making gif animation.
JPEG (Join Photographers Expert Group):
JPEG is the most usable file format in local pc & also internet service as continuous tone image. It supports CMYK, RGB, and Grayscale color mode but doesn’t support alpha channel. The main different between JPEG and GIF format is JPEG’s file size is too small & save whole color information but on the other hand.
PDF (Portable Document Format):
PDF is a soft, cross platform and cross application file format. It saves an image both vector & raster graphics format besides front page layout depending on postscript imaging model. The more advantage is, PDF file contain electronic document search and navigation feature like electronic link. It supports 16 bit image per channel.
PNG (Portable Network Graphics):
It is the most alternative file format for GIF. It only develops for using the image in web as lossless compression format. The main different between GIF and PNG is, PNG supports 24 bit image & create rugged borderless transparent background. But some browser still now doesn’t supports PNG format. PNG supports RGB, Indexed-color, Grayscale and Bitmap color. It does not support alpha channel. Besides it saves Grayscale & RGB image transparent. It has two standard format, these are: PNG 8 & PNG 24.
